CARBON Brushes COMPLETE SET for Photoshop and Procreate

Sale Price:$25.00 Original Price:$30.00

Justin Gerard’s CARBON Brush Sets have been developed to give illustrators digital tools for sketching and drawing that simulate the look and feel of traditional tools. This set offers 60 unique Brushes for Photoshop and Procreate that simulate CHALK and CHARCOAL texture, texture and shading. Each brush was hand-designed using samples of actual pencil, chalk and charcoal strokes on a variety of paper surfaces. They have been refined over the course of the past two years so that their tool settings are highly optimized. They will save the artist time and energy while also providing highly-nuanced, varied and interesting brush-work, line-work, and texture.

Each brush contains built-in characteristics such as opacity, flow, special modes and textural effects that make each one handle in unique ways. Please see the Brush Guide in the sample images for some helpful tips on how to use the brushes to their fullest potential.

These brushes have been rigorously tested and I have used them extensively during the past 2 years in each of the paintings you can see in my Artstation Portfolio. They represent the very best of my current brush line-up.

After your purchase you will be sent a PDF with a link in it. Please click the link to download your brushes.

COMPATIBILITY : This brush set download contains both a Photoshop .abr file, as well as a .brushset Procreate file. The CARBON Brush Set is compatible with Photoshop CC on both Mac and PC, as well as Procreate, and Affinity Photo.

*Please note that the individual brushes may perform differently in Photoshop and Procreate as each brush has been specifically optimized for each program. The Procreate brush set features some brushes that are different from the Photoshop set. This is because some brushes (such as the eraser brushes) are not part of the Procreate toolset. In these few cases I have reworked and renamed them to new brushes which function optimally in Procreate. Because of this, some of the Procreate brushes may look slightly different and have different names than those shown in the Brush Guides.

Apart from looking natural, these brushes also “feel” natural, so that the artist who has grown accustomed to working with traditional media will not feel so disoriented when switching to digital. While these brushes excel at blending traditional and digital, they are also a useful tool for the purely digital painter who is looking for a way to give their work a more traditional look.

Justin Gerard works primarily by painting digitally over a traditionally drawn pencil sketch or watercolor painting. The problem is that most digital brushes look too “digital,” and don’t look natural when applied over a scan of a traditional painting.  The marks don’t blend well because they are too flat, too plastic, and lack character and texture.

To solve this problem, he designed these brushes over several years. They have been used in all of his client and professional work to give his paintings a more natural and classical look.

Justin designed these brushes by sampling hundreds of scans of actual brush strokes, paint splatters, pencil marks and natural textures, all made with various professional tools (and some spilled coffee). They represent a decade of trial and error and fine-tuning. Of the hundreds of brushes he's designed for his own purposes, these are the the very best.

We hope you enjoy working with them!  Please do not hesitate to email us with any questions.
